Walking the Talk of refreshing your website
Walking the Talk of refreshing your website
I have been serving web clients since 2003 and giving my “Roadmap to Your Professional Web Presence” webinar for years. Through all of this time, my message has been consistent:
Launching your first website is only the beginning. You should review and revamp your website’s look and feel at least every three years. That amount of time in terms of web technology and user interface (UI) is lightyears. A dated site serves you in a very negative way since first impressions are lasting.
I launched my last of many refreshes for my website in 2019. As it goes for a designer, we are often too busy to improve our OWN user experience! That certainly seemed the case for me. To top it off, I really LIKED my 2019 site’s look and feel.
As time ticked by, I just felt “bad” about not taking my own advice. Additionally, the theme my site was running on stopped providing updates and support. That is NEVER a good thing in the world of content management systems, WordPress in this case. Security issues abound, and to have a site running deprecated software is opening it up to hackers. Period.
That finally caught up to me so I took the time and energy it takes to go through this vital review.
Going into it, I thought I’d just update the theme, re-create the same look and feel as the 2019 site, and move on. However, I discovered that my site was way overdue to examine the journey through the site, the experience of finding what I felt was important, and that, over this time, I had moved into projects that I wanted to showcase at a higher level. Technology HAS changed. There are now more animated and fun ways to deliver my message as well.
Launched in February of 2024, my website makes me “2024 Happy.” I’ve Walked my Talk and encourage you to revisit your website’s experience soon!
